I met Aisha Brown, a stand-up comedian, this time last year through superwoman Zabrina Chevannes. Whenever we’ve passed each other at comedy clubs, it has been a jovial catch-up of ships passing in the night. (read: she’s busy!) We’ve finally managed to translate those crossed paths into booking her on the show.
What I didn’t know at that time, but I am heartened to find out, she is a Trekkie, specifically for our (half-)Betazoid friend, Deanna Troi.
A quick bio about this rising stand-up star:
Aisha Brown was voted most likely to be a comedian in high school, and having given up on her career as a fake Zumba instructor, she’s rolling with it.
She has performed in the 2015 JFL42 and Guelph Comedy Festivals. She’s also been a regular feature on YukYuk’s legendary Nubian Night, and has hosted and headlined Zabrina Chevannes critically acclaimed “Things Black Girls Say”.
Aisha performs biweekly at the Downtown Toronto Yuk Yuk’s on their pro/am night, and co-hosts Hard Day Comedy; a weekly female driven comedy show at The Office Pub. You can also catch Aisha performing and writing with “Runnin’ at The Mouth”; a hip-hop comedy collective; who recently released their first album through Comedy Records, “Wit My Woes”.
I remember seeing her perform her first parody song (below) for the first time and seeing how well received it was. I am glad that she is continuing to create material with the Runnin’ at The Mouth crew. The world needs more hiphop joke songs.
