Season 3, Episode 10: The Forcefield Awakens
Captain Field’s Log, stardate December 4, 2015.
We had an amazing time on Wednesday, wrapping up three years of shows!
The crew of the USS Albatross saved Federation planets from Romulan attacks. With too much dilithium in their cargo hold, and too little shielding, they were forced to be creative but became a force to be feared. It was too simple to man the torpedoes, so they torpedoed their best man!
On the variety front, stand-up comedian Gavin Stephens made us laugh a lot and squirm a little. It was an edgy set, helping the audience boldly move out of their comfort zone. Rock, Paper, Cynic (Peter Chiykowski) delighted us with geeky songs, including the new holiday classic, Nuclear Winter Wonderland. Before the show, I had an idea to do some holiday parodies at intermission but the ideas were half-formed and not nearly as smart.
This month, I removed the intermission to give our acts and ourselves more time, and that worked well. It gave us some extra time to hang out with the performers, friends, and fans. Hanging out afterward is its own reward!
We didn’t capture many photos but Jane, who first saw us at FanExpo Canada in September, took the above photo of us with Gavin and Peter.
John, who also first saw us at FanExpo, took a couple more shots:
And Nika, a great cosplayer who joined us at Close Shave 4, took a positronically wonderful selfie at the show:
End Transmission.
On January 6th, Holodeck Follies is back at The Social Capital Theatre to kick off a new season of silly Star Trek stories and share some of our favourite variety acts with you. Don’t miss it!
“[T]his improvisational comedy show will delight Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike.” – John K. Kirk
