Kari Maaren

The first time we heard Kari Maaren perform live, we were at the Dominion on Queen for Errol’s birthday party. Among other great songs, I distinctly remember her slips of paper for the gathered throng so we could all sing The Birthday Horror Song together. Kari is a wonderful performer with smart, referential filk songs. Between her busy work and performing schedule, it took us a year to find a time that she could join us.

Kari is a multi-award winning creator of music and fiction and a member of the Canadian Geek Bands initiative. She is up for two Prix Aurora awards this year. She is also a long-time web comic artist, currently producing It Never Rains.

It was difficult restricting Kari to a few songs because there are so many we wanted her to play! This is a favourite in our household, not just because it is factually accurate, but it has a kazoo section:

As much as we love (and love to hate) Vulcans, they are Space Elves (specifically the Enlightened Mystic Race variety) so it wouldn’t be a stretch if she were to play this song on Wednesday. However, we do have a set list, and we can’t wait for you to hear it.
